Susan Smet

November 26, 1961 — May 26, 2022

Susan "Sue" (Baumgart) Smet - on Thursday, May 26, 2022, after bravely fighting, Sue was called to her heavenly home. Throughout her life, Sue was always the one to put others' needs before her own. Her strength, determination, kindness and positivity were evident to anyone who crossed paths with her.

Sue was born on November 26, 1961 to Walter and Beverly (Ellis) Baumgart. On October 10, 1980 Sue married the love of her life and best friend, Thomas Smet. For 41 plus years they filled their home with lots of love and laughter. God blessed Tom and Sue with two sons; Craig and Adam. Nothing meant more to her than being their mother. Sue loved Craig and Adam unconditionally with everything she had. She was extremely proud of the men they've become and loved her daughter-in-laws, Katie and Andrea, as her own.

Sue's life took on a new meaning when she became a grandma. Caring for Sophie and Hudson was Sue's most rewarding career. She adored them and being their grandma meant more to her than anything. Sue always cherished the time she spent with them, and the park was always one of their favorite adventures.

Sue's faith was important to her and remained constant throughout her life. After marriage, Sue and Tom became members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Seymour. Once the boys started school, Sue took a secretarial position in the school office. As a nurturing person who loved working with children, she devoted 18 years of her life to being a caregiver at Adventures Child Care & Preschool in Freedom, WI. Most recently she continued her nurturing passion by caring for her grandchildren and other children close to her heart.

Having seven siblings, Sue learned patience, forgiveness and understanding very early on. She attended Hortonville High School, graduating in the Class of 1979. Sue had an appreciation for the simpler things in life. She enjoyed spending time outside cutting the lawn, in straight lines of course, and feeding the birds. Sue listened to country music with her favorites being Tim McGraw and Thomas Rhett. She loved watching Craig compete in demolition derbies and the many animated discussions they shared. She was a baseball enthusiast who was always cheering for the Brewers, but her favorite was cheering on Adam and the teams he coached. Grilling chicken over a wood fire for her family was her specialty. Sue had many different interests including puzzles, diamond art, reading (especially romance novels), and watching Hallmark movies to name a few. Her passion was fitness. She enjoyed exercising and taking walks with Tom.

Sue is survived by her husband Tom; their sons Craig (Katie) Smet and Adam (Andrea) Smet and their children Sophie and Hudson; her mother Beverly; her five brothers and two sisters: Jim (Joan) Baumgart, Bob (Sheila) Baumgart, Tom (Amy) Baumgart, Joanne (Tom) Christianson, Dan (late Barbara) Baumgart, Ter (Terri) Baumgart, and Jill (Mark) Disterhaft. Her mother-in-law Margaret Smet; her sister and brother-in-laws: Sue Christensen, Bob Christensen, Joanne (Lenny) Smurawa, Bob (Ginnie) Smet, Linda (Mike) Nolan, Laura (Jeff) Hofacker, John Smet, and Renee Smet; along with seven godchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Sue was preceded in death by her father Walter Baumgart, her father-in-law Clarence Smet, a sister-in-law Barb Baumgart, and a niece Hope Elizabeth Hofacker.
