Thomas R (Tommy) Thompson
Tom Thompson age 85, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from pneumonia and severe health issues since August, 2024 and has been on ThedaCare Hospice care. He was born on October 3, 1939, in Black River Falls, WI to Dorothy (Fitzpatrick) Beckman and Tilman Thompson, and raised by his grandparents, Tom and Mary Thompson, whom he loved dearly and learned his horse skills from.
Tom went into the United States Army at 17 years old and stationed in Korea 1958-59 and dealt with frostbite to his extremities for the remainder of his life. He was then stationed at Fort Carson. He loved the state of Colorado and spent 6 years as a police officer on the Pueblo Police Department. He then moved back to Wisconsin after a divorce.
He met Janice (Doersch) Thompson in Appleton, Wisconsin, and the two were married on August 31, 1968 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, celebrated their 56 year anniversary.
After many years in the construction field for various contractors, the arthritis would not allow him to continue with that profession. He started hauling cattle which he enjoyed being on his own.
Tom enjoyed the rodeo sport of team roping as a heeler and met many wonderful friends. He traveled statewide attending jackpots and rodeos in his 40's and 50's, finally selling our last quarter horse when he was 75.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Tracey (James) Schuh; grandchildren: Michael Grych, Holly (Jason) Smith; great-grandchildren: Baylor and Briar, whom he loved dearly; Eric (Jennifer) Blomdahl, he loved just like a son and their children: Rachel, Tyler, Matthew, Makenna, and Carson; sisters: Cheryl McCarthy, Pamela Thompson-Finn (Jim Finn); brother, Mervin Thompson; and many cousins and other relatives.
