Vernon Lubinski

Vernon J. Lubinski, 89 years of age of Seymour, Wisconsin, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, June 18, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. He was born April 6, 1924, in Shawano County, Wisconsin, son of Joseph and Gertrude (Krumrai) Lubinski. Vernon was the eldest of their three children. His brother, Marvin, and sister, Grace (Cheke) both predeceased him. Vernon's early childhood was spent in the Rose Lawn and Hofa Park areas of Shawano County. He attended parochial school at St. Stanislaus Parish in Hofa Park and at Seymour, Wisconsin. He was active in a number of academic and athletic activities. Upon graduation from Seymour High School, he spent one year at St. Norbert College before entering the United States Army during World War II. Vernon was wounded in Germany and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his military service. After completing his military duties, Vernon attended the University of Wisconsin Madison where he received a bachelor's degree and later his law degree in 1950.
Vernon was united in marriage to Evelyn Mastey on November 16, 1946. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together.
Upon graduation from law school, Vernon and Evelyn returned to Seymour, Wisconsin, where he joined Michael Burns and began his law practice under the name of Burns & Lubinski. Over the years, four of his children joined him in the practice. He also had a number of personal friends and partners who worked with him including his longtime friend, Kenneth Rottier. Vernon was a member of the Outagamie County Bar Association and the State Bar of Wisconsin and served a term as president of the County Bar and a term as member of the Legal Ethics Committee for the State Bar.
Vernon was very active in the Seymour community and in his church. He as a member of St. John the Baptist Church and served many years as a trustee. He also was an original member of St. John's Knights of Columbus Council in Seymour, Wisconsin, and helped organize the Pulaski, Wisconsin Council. For a number of years Vernon served as Grand Knight and District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus.
Vernon was involved in a number of local activities including organizing blood drives in Seymour. He was active in scouting and was on the Valley Boy Scouts Executive Board and helped organize the Wisconsin Boy Scouts Camperee. He was chairman of the first Alice in Dairyland parade held in Seymour, Wisconsin and was also an active member of the Seymour Businessmen's Association, now known as Seymour Chamber of Commerce. He served as its secretary for a number of years. Vernon was most generous with his time and talent in obtaining new businesses and families in the Seymour area by promoting the community. Vernon was a co-founder of Crystal Springs Golf Course, Good Shepherd Nursing Home, and was active in the formation of the Seymour Community School District, the Freedom School District, the Hortonville School District, and the Weyauwega School District.
Vernon served as City Attorney for the City of Seymour for more than twenty years. He was also the Seymour Legion Commander of Post 106 for a term and master of ceremonies for the annual Memorial Day parade for a number of years.
There were few sporting events in Seymour that Vernon didn't attend. Besides being an active participant when he could in bowling and golf, he enjoyed coaching the St. Jon's grade school basketball team for many years and was active in youth baseball and Legion baseball. Vernon was recognized as Seymour High School Athletic Backer of the Year. Vernon's civic activities were recognized when he was named Seymour Man of the Year Outstanding Citizen in 1973 and when he was recipient of the Fox Valley Foundation Humanitarian Award.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Evelyn, and his five children: Richard (Donna) Lubinski of Seymour, Wisconsin, and their children, Lauren, Allison (Eric) Mullen, and Katelyn; Jane (John) Clegg of Madison, Wisconsin, and their children, Matthew (Julia), Nicolas, and Elizabeth; Robert (Kathi) Lubinski of Seymour, Wisconsin, and their children, Ryan (Hannah) and Lindsey; Ann (Randy) Reed of Seymour, Wisconsin, and their children Michael (Ashley) and great grandson, Matthew, Robert (Aimee), and Thomas; and Mary (Patrick) Klass of Seymour, Wisconsin, and their children, Steven (fiancAC.e Abby) and Joanna.
In addition to his parents, brother, and sister, he was preceded in death by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home in Seymour, Wisconsin. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Seymour, Wisconsin. A Mass of Christian Celebration will commence at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Good Shepherd Services of Seymour, Wisconsin, or St. John the Baptist Building Fund. Military Services will follow the Mass.
