Vernon C. Witthuhn Sr., age 82, of Appleton, WI peacefully left this Earth and went to see his son Keith on August 2nd, 2023. Vern was born January 29th, 1941 to Doris (Murray) and Clarence Witthuhn. He grew up in Nichols and Seymour, WI. He joined the Air Force after graduating from Seymour High School. He served his tour of duty in San Antonio, Texas where he met and married Tommie (Thomasina) Norton. They returned to Seymour in July of 1963 with son Vernon Jr.
Upon returning to Seymour Vern worked at Appleton Coated Papers for 37 years as a mill worker, test station technician, foreman, and scheduler. During this time, Vern and Tommie added Nancy, Keith, James, and Sue to fill their home with noise, love, and fun.
Vern was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and pool shooter. He enjoyed hunting in Texas and Saskatchewan. He loved teaching his kids and grandkids "old Indian tricks" to solve problems and make repairs. He had a hundred sayings. Vern was a proud member of Seymour American Legion Post 106 and their Honor Guard.
Vern is survived by Tommie his wife of 61 interesting and enjoyable years, son Vern Jr. (Joan) Witthuhn and their children Christopher and Nicole (Adam Bishop), daughter Nancy Horn and her children Jacob (Andrea) and their daughters Laureli, Opal, and Vivian; Zachary (Ali), and Morgan, daughter-in-law Michelle Witthuhn and her children Gunnar (Trisha) and their sons Granger and Landon, Logan (Abby), Tanner, and Ty, son Jim (Amy) Witthuhn and their children Abraham, Taylor, Carissa (Zack Godfrey), Rachel and Owen, and daughter Sue Boettcher (Mark Hein) and her sons Reed (Austin Peckman) and Garrett. He is also survived by siblings Jerome Witthuhn, Janice (Gary) Finder, Lee (Patti) Witthuhn, and brother-in-law Jerry Mueller.
He is preceded in death by his son Keith, parents Clarence and Doris, his sister Lois and brother-in-law Gary Blohm, his sister Rose Anne Mueller, his sons-in-law Mark Boettcher and Michael Horn, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and Thomas Norton.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Doctor Miller's office (Ascension on Richmond Street) and Moments Hospice, specifically Micki RN and Christine RN for their wonderful care of Vern.
A celebration of life will take place on August 19th, 2023 at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home in Seymour, WI. at 12 noon until the time of service at 3 pm, with Military Honors to follow by Krause-Kraft-Mueller Post 106.
In lieu of flowers Vern would like donations made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
