Vilas J. Brockman, age 84, of Kaukauna, formerly of Freedom, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at St. Paul Villa with his family by his side.
He was born on March 31, 1926 to the late Joseph and Minnie (Lamers) Brockman in Little Chute.
On September 4, 1948 he married the former Germaine Brux at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kaukauna. The couple enjoyed 62 years of marriage together.
Vilas was employed at Kimberly-Clark and in 1958 the couple began farming together in the Town of Freedom. He was also a long time member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom.
Vilas enjoyed going on trips with Germaine. He was proud of his time spent playing baseball and in his later years enjoyed golfing. Vilas was an avid card player and rarely missed playing with the Monday group.
In addition to his wife Germaine, he is survived by six children: Dennis (Judy) Brockman, Advance; Don (Nancy) Brockman, Kaukauna; Duane (Pam) Brockman, Kaukauna; Susan (Steve) Peeters, DePere; Marilee Cappaert, Freedom; Kevin (Jory) Brockman, Phelps. Also survived by 16 grandchildren: Kristy (Matt) Hesse, Robert (Brook) Brockman, Jodi (Darrin) Matthis, Jacki (Mike) Wegand, Joanne Brockman, Jane (Phil) VandeVoort, Jyl Brockman, and Jesse (Liz) Brockman, Katie (Rory) Hurst, Emily Brockman, Sara and Dominic Peeters, Chad Cappaert, Angela (fiance Andy) Cappaert, Landin and Riley Brockman; and further survived by 10 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by 2 brothers: Jerome (Marie) Brockman, Darboy; and Maurice (Ethel) Brockman, Darboy; 2 sisters-in-law: Louise Allbrecht, Appleton; and Ethel Brockman, Black Creek.
Preceding Vilas in death were 3 brothers: Lester, Lawrence, and Gordon.
Friends may call at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, on Monday, February 28th from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon with Fr. David Hoffman officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
