William Tubbs

March 25, 1923 — May 15, 2012

William "Bill" R. Tubbs, age 89, of Seymour, died peacefully at home surrounded by family members on May 15, 2012. He was born March 25, 1923 to the late Frank and Mary (McCord) Tubbs. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1940. He attended UW Madison for two years prior to entering the US Navy.

Bill served in the US Navy during WWII and was a longtime member of the Seymour American Legion Post #106, having served as the Commander in 1962 and the Chaplain for many years. He was also active with the National and IL/WI Navy Armed Guard Association.

Bill led a very active and community minded life. He was a 4-H leader for the Woodland Hustlers and past president of the Outagamie County 4-H Leaders and the DHIA, and a director for the state DHIA.

In 1957 he was awarded the Jaycee Outstanding Young Farmer award and was the runner-up for the award at the state level. He also served on the Badger Breeders board of directors and the WI Feeder Pig Co-op.

He was involved in the Seymour Community Players, a member of the Seymour Historical Society, and played the role of Hamburger Charlie for 12 years. Bill was also an active member of Seymour United Methodist Church and served as a trustee.

He enjoyed playing sheepshead and cribbage, attended many Seymour High School sporting events and Legion baseball games. Bill was an avid fan of the WI Badgers and Green Bay Packers.

Bill is survived by his wife Gloria Otis-Kuzulka; son James Tubbs, Chicago; daughter Sally (Mike) Lange, Pontiac, MI; two granddaughters: Ivy (Dan) Finkenstadt, Cheverly, MD, and April (Sean) Preece, Waterford, MI; three great grandchildren: Henson Preece and Mitchell Brown-Roa; soon to be born Gloriana Brown-Roa; two step-daughters: Lisa (Don) Ashbrook, Bruce Crossing, MI; and Lori Brown, Appleton; step-granddaughter Rebecca (Juan) Brown-Roa; sister Kate Pacheco, Lakewood, CO; two brothers: Dale (Kathryn) Tubbs, Anchorage, AL; and Jim (Dixie) Tubbs, Green Bay; sister-in-law Pat Tubbs, Charlotte, NC;

He was preceded in death by his first wife Zona; sister Mary Ellen; and brother Robert.

Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, on Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 4 to 8 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Seymour United Methodist Church from 11:00 AM until services at 1 PM with Pastor Rebecca Henry officiating. Military rites will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials will be given to Bill's favorite charities.
